The Archipelago of Ramesh
Kuandu Biennale, Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, Taiwan | 29 September - 11 December 2016
Curator: Glenn Barkley
About the exhibition:
Asialink Arts in collaboration with Australian curator Glenn Barkley and artist Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran will participate in the 2016 Kuandu Biennale this September in Taipei. Taking place for the fourth time and with an audience of over 200,000, the Biennale is presented by the Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, part of the Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA). This biennale adopts an original format where 10 curators, from 10 countries each curate an artist/collective into the biennale.
Addressing the biennale theme of Slaying Monsters, Nithiyendran will present a large site specific installation, titled the Archipelago of Ramesh, of creations which have been made on site ahead of the biennale opening. Arguable the most influential, visible and successful artist working with clay in Australia, the work will introduce Taiwanese audiences to contemporary Australian ceramics.
Following presentations at the 2016 Adelaide Biennale and a solo exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia, the Kuandu Biennale provides Nithiyendran an international opportunity to create his first large-scale ephemeral installation.
