Founded in 2015 by leading Sydney-based curators Glenn Barkley, Holly Williams and Ivan Muñiz Reed,
The Curators’ Department is an independent agency defined by a commitment to foster a true engagement with artists and enable diverse audiences to experience outstanding creative practice.
With broad ranging experience across the visual arts sector, our individual work has been recognised as exemplifying an innovative, relevant and engaging curatorial vision. Building on this, The Curators’ Department has been established to explore the potential for new models of creative production, cultivating ethical relationships alongside cultural and environmental sustainability.
We have delivered a wide range of curatorial and arts advisory services from exhibition development and production to art consultancy, valuations and publishing. Our clients have included Australian artists and their estates, private collectors, regional galleries, private companies, large public institutions and arts festivals.
In recent years The Curators’ Department has been led by Holly Williams with curatorial and research support by Aanya Roennfeldt and collaboration on specific projects with Associate Curators Glenn Barkley and Chris Gaul.
We acknowledge the Gadigal and Birrabirragal people, the traditional custodians of the land on which we primarily work and Custodians of Country wherever our projects take place. We also acknowledge First Nations Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, waters, culture and community and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
